Five Super Summer Multiplayer Games for Your iPhone and iPad

With summer already underway, there’s no better time for getting together with friends, which is also perfect for playing a few multiplayer games on your iPhone or iPad!  Thinking of multiplayer games often leads to shooters or racing games, but they don’t really fit in with a relaxed summer picnic, so we’ve selected five games which make perfect companions when lazily hanging out with friends.

Scrabble.

The classic board game is available for both the iPhone and the iPad, however if you and your friends all own iPhones (or iPod Touches) and have an iPad between you, then the smaller displays become your own personal letter tray!  It’s a great way to play and ensures you won’t lose any letter counters if you’re out and about.  Scrabble for the iPhone costs $2.99/£1.99, while the HD iPad version costs $9.99/£8.99, and the Tile Rack app is yours for free.

Foosball HD.

Another classic game which has been enjoyed with friends for many years!  It can be played on your own, however the game comes into its own when it’s one-on-one or even two-on-two!  The 3D graphics look good and the app has recently been tweaked to take advantage of the iPad 2’s superior graphical ability.  $2.99/£1.99.

Sketch n’ Guess.

There may not be an official Pictionary app available, but there are plenty of alternatives!  This is just one, and works entirely offline making it perfect for use outdoors if you don’t have a 3G connection.  The pen-and-paper graphical style really suits the game and drawings can even be saved to your Photo Gallery.  $1.99/£1.49.

MultiPong.

A cross between classic Pong and a pinball machine, with added multiplayer modes for up to four players!  The app is universal for the iPhone and iPad (except the iPhone version only supports up to two players), has Game Center support, Retina Display graphics and plenty of customization options.  $2.99/£1.99.

Uno.

Who doesn’t enjoy Uno?  This card game is ideal for whiling away a quiet afternoon, and Gameloft’s conversion is a good one, making great use of the iPhone and iPad’s multi-touch screen.  Both versions are the same price at the moment too, so if you like the idea of Uno without the actual cards, now is the time to grab it!  $0.99/£0.69.
