MacRumors reports that Apple has switched on their new “Find My Mac” service for developers testing Apple’s new iCloud service, which will be going mainstream this fall. Apple formally announced the feature a few months ago at WWDC, but there had been rumors ahead of the announcement claiming that just such a feature was headed to the Mac.
Of course, Find My Mac functions much the same way as Find My iPhone works for iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches. However, Macs do not ship with GPS technology built in them, so, as with the iPod touch, locations must be determined with near-by Wi-Fi networks.
Also just as with Find My iPhone, users can send their Mac a message, remotely lock the screen, or wipe all of their data from the hard drive. This feature will be available to everyone for free this fall with the release of iCloud.
