Apple recently rolled out the beta of iCloud.com, which allows users to access web applications, very similar to that found in MobileMe. That is, Mail, Address Book, Calendar, Find My iPhone, Etc. At the same time, Apple also rolled out a new iWork beta. Engadget has now released a report clear ing up some of the mystery surrounding iWork, for those of us without a Apple developer account.

Engadget notes that iWork in iCloud works more as a sync and download service, than a true editing service. That is, if a document is created on, say, an iOS device, it is almost immediately displayed on iWork in iCloud. From there, just like the iWork.com beta has been offering for several years now, users can download their documents, in a series of formats. For example, Pages documents can be downloaded as Pages, Rich Text, and Word formats.

The most notable new addition to iWork/iCloud, is that users can now directly upload documents to the web interface (no longer needs to be sent through iWork apps), and then immediately downloaded to all of your iOS devices with the iWork apps installed.

Here’s to no longer wondering about how to add a particular accent to vowels and consonants in OS X Lion. While you can still hold Option + E to add an acute accent (é), Lion makes the process a lot more iOS-like by simply letting you hold down on a key and then let you choose from the resulting pop-up menu.

It’s probably not quite as fast as using the Option key combo, but it should prove useful for those who can never remember which Twister-like combination of keys results in which can put that little chapeau on vôwêls.

iDownloadBlog is reporting that the next version of iTunes, currently being called “iTunes 11?, will receive a total overhaul of it’s User Interface design, while also offering full integration into Apple’s forthcoming iCloud service.

The report claims that the new UI would have a cleaner and “slick” UI, while iCloud being closely tied into the app. They also claim the iTunes Store will be integrated into the app, unlike it’s current implementation wherein iTunes is acting as a web browser allowing the user to view the store.

Lastly, the report also claims that iCloud backups will be wrapped into the new iTunes. This falls in line with what we’ve been hearing, and the way Apple has been explaining iCloud. That is, the iCloud, and not your computer, will be the main source of data to be synced to the rest of your devices (including your computer). The previous model, as with MobileMe for example, made your computer the central hub of data, which all other devices sync with.

Also remember that Apple is beta testing iTunes 10.5 alongside iOS 5, which does not have significant UI changes at this time. So, either 10.5 will be released alongside iOS 5, with no UI changes, or iTunes 10.5 will be released any time now, with iTunes 11 being released alongside iOS 5 this fall.

In other words, either iTunes 10.5 will see a UI overhaul that is currently not present in the betas, or Apple will release a future version of iTunes with the changes. That is, if the report is even accurate.

It’s a few weeks after the All Star break in baseball, but it looks like this week may be All Star week for iOS jailbreakers. Or at least that’s what this photo suggests. The group shown includes Jay Freeman (aka Saurik, founder of Cydia and Dev Team member) ,geohot (the original unlocker of the iPhone and boy wonder jailbreaker), and P0sixninja and JayWalker and other stars of the jailbreak scene.

He still regularly calls the top brass at Apple, but he doesn’t micromanage the company like he used to. Now, he’s talking with the execs, and allows them to execute on their collective plans. Apple Looking to Buy an Additional $5 Billion in Patents

Bloomberg is reporting that InterDigital is planning to sell off it’s patent portfolio which could fetch a price of $5 billion. These patents outline technology for high-speed mobile phone networks, and are used by some of the world’s largest mobile phone manufacturers. So whoever owns these patents, could be making a lot of money in licensing. [Read More]

Apple Taking Legal Action Against Fake Apple Stores

After the internet brought China’s fake Apple Stores to the public eye, Apple has now filed suit against some 50 different defendants, most of which are John Does and unmanned businesses. The case is still under court seal, so no specifics are known at this time. [Read More]

One of the best features of the iA Writer app is the very generous bottom margin for text, so that no matter how much you type, you’ll never be staring past the middle point of the screen. This not only looks great, but is also easier on my computing posture, since it spares me from having to crane my neck to see the bottom of the screen. Byword for the Mac also supports this style of text outlining, and they call it Typewriter mode.

Instead of waiting for this feature to hit other apps on the iPad and Mac, I’ve tried simply “hacking” it right into my other text editors by pressing the return key 10-12 times, and then returning to the beginning of the document to write. There isn’t any fancy focus mode to blur the words (unless I squint really hard), but the text cursor never goes past the middle point of the screen, and that’s really all I need.

This is admittedly a bit of a niche tip, but given the number of iPad and Mac text editors out there, somebody is bound to find it useful. If this little trick has caught on with you, let us know in the comments!

Trip Chowdhry of Global Equities Research has issued a report (via AppleInsider) wherein he claims Apple is planning to introduce three HDTV models by March of 2012. He claims Apple will offer three different models at three different price points.

Chowdhry claims that Apple’s implementation of an HDTV will reduce clutter in the living room, while having 16 speakers for a “complete surround sound experience”, with the set itself will only be two inches thick.

It has been rumored for some time that Apple will be introducing a TV set of their own. After all, Apple has made inroads into the market with their Apple TV set-top box. On the other hand, Apple has publicly noted that the TV market is fragmented and overall just a difficult industry to participate in.

Lastly, Chowdhry has a pretty poor track record when it comes to Apple. One instance comes to mind wherein Chowdhry claimed that Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer would make an appearance at Apple’s WWDC 2010 conference. Microsoft quickly downplayed the comment, and of course, it never actually happened. In short, take this report with a grain of salt.
